Boater Chris Wilkerson of Conroe, Texas, won the March 17 Walmart BFL Cowboy Division event on Toledo Bend Reservoir after landing a total catch of 17 pounds, 1 ounce. For his efforts, Wilkerson netted over $4,000 in winnings.

Bebber, Wilkerson were hot

It didn’t take long for the Texas tornadoes to put their limit in the boat.

“We had that (limit) by 10 a.m. and spent the day looking,” Bebber said. “The conditions weren’t too good for finding them, but we found a few. We were just picking up a few here and there.”

The pair said they had several other good fish on target but didn’t go for the motherlode Thursday.

“We’re trying to manage them a little bit,” Wilkerson said. “There’s no giants but there are some decent ones.”

Bass Rankings: Last week we spoke with Michael Simonton, who is going to step up to the BASS Elites this season.

You’re doing the same thing, except with the FLW Tour. How excited are you for the season?

Charles Bebber: I’d say my excitement level is at an all-time high. I’ve wanted to compete on the FLW

Tour or BASS Elite Series for a long time. I’m also anxious, in a good way. I’m ready to get started.

Andy Gaia of Tomball, Texas, sight-fished all week and said he caught 30 keepers during the week using a Craw Worm. He said, in some instances, he spent too much time working individual fish and probably should have kept moving.

“My biggest fish I lost yesterday with about 10 minutes to go,” he said. “So I went back there this morning and caught it in the dark.”

He wrapped up the tournament with 51 pounds, 15 ounces worth $7,000.
