RICKY GUY takes "Angler of the Year"

(May. 23, 2011 - Lake Sam Rayburn, TX)... Anglers Quest 2011 Sam Rayburn Individual 1st Series #5 out of The Umphrey Pavilion in Sam Rayburn, Tx began this event with 12 anglers showing up to fish for the $1150.00 purse. This 5th event of 2011 was started as a trailoring event because of very high winds predicted for the day. The anglers were allowed to travel to a PUBLIC ramp of their choice and leave at 5:50 am. Last cast of the day was at 3:15 pm. The weigh in time was conducted by 4:00 pm. Any Individuals entering 4 of the 1st series of Rayburn Individual Series events automatically qualified for the 2-day Sam Rayburn Championship. The Top Individual in points was Ricky Guy and he was declared the "2012 Angler of the Year" and will be awarded free entries to all 2012 Rayburn Individual Series events. The Individuals entering 7 Rayburn Individual 1st & 2nd series events will automatically qualify for all 3 of the Lake Series Individual 2-day Championships. The highest Top 10 points group of Individuals from the 2nd series of 3 events will also qualify to go to the 2-day Rayburn Championship. Any Individual qualifying for any A/Q Championship will be allowed to enter the "Tournament of Champions" on November 19-20 at Lake Palestine.

 

Sam Rayburn water was in good shape and about 8.46 feet below normal pool level with water temps ranning 73-76 degrees. The weather at takeoff was a windy 76 degrees with a warming to 86 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching continues to be very good on Big Sam as there was 11 limits brought to the scales, for a total of 55 bass at 132.24 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 2.40 lb.

Tommy Dickerson from Orange, Tx ran his bass rig to south lake Easley Flats areas over grass & lily pads to catch his bass with his rods & reels tipped with frogs & buzz baits in 1-4 ft of water. Tommy managed to cull several times during his day to finish in 1st place with 18.00 lbs. Tommy caught the Big Bass of the event at 3:00 pm, a fine 6.00 lber to give him the win and made him $790.00 for his day on the water.

Ricky Guy from Humble, Tx ran his Bowden Marine prepared BassCat/Evinrude bass rig to south lake Easley Flats over grass & lily pads to catch his bass using his American Rodsmiths rods & Shimano reels tipped with frogs & buzzbaits in 1-4 ft of water. Ricky managed to cull several keepers to finish in 2nd place with his best 5 at 16.50 lbs and made him $300.00 for his day on the water. Ricky also overtook Keith Worthy for the "Angler of the Year" title.

Danny Cross from Lufkin, Tx ran his bass rig to areas on the north end of the lake and finished his day in 3rd with 5 bass at 16.19 lbs. Tommy Hill from Kountze, Tx finished in 4th with 5 bass at 14.60 lbs.
